School Self Evaluation

School Self Evaluation

The Department of Education and Skills requires each school to engage in the practice of self-reflection. This process is called School Self Evaluation (SSE). SSE is an integral process in school life that is designed to focus on school improvement. It is a “collaborative, inclusive, and reflective process of internal school review”.

An evidence-based approach, it involves gathering information from all members of the school community (Board of Management, Principal, Deputy Principal, teachers, students, and parents) and then making judgements and action plans based on the evidence gathered using the 6-step process.

The SSE process aims to improve the quality of the education we provide for our students here in Luttrellstown Community College. SSE also means focusing on areas that merit improvement and deciding on actions that should be taken to bring about improvements in those areas to maintain high standards.

School self-evaluation is supported by a quality framework, Looking at Our School (LAOS) 2022, which provides a set of criteria or descriptors of quality in schools.

SSE in LCC to date:

1st cycle 2012-2016: Teaching and Learning focus: Literacy & Numeracy

2nd cycle 2016-2020: Teaching and Learning continued to be the focus, specifically our focus was “Enhancing CBAs through T.E.L.” As schools closed during this period due to Covid –19 pandemic our SSE focus changed to become “Covid Response Plan & Remote Learning Action Plan”. This cycle was extended to 2021.

2021-2022 -Address the challenges that have arisen in the pandemic.

3rd cycle 2022- 2026:

2022-2023: Review year:

1.Use/Continue to use the SSE process to identify and reflect on the impact of COVID-19 on their pupils’/students’ educational experiences and outcomes, their wellbeing, their motivation to learn, and their engagement in learning.

2.Use of the SSE process to initiate a wellbeing promotion review and development cycle by 2025 as set out in Circular 0032/2021 and Circular 0033/2021.

3.Take stock of the effectiveness of their SSE process to date, developing and consolidating it as necessary to ensure it is collaborative, inclusive and impactful.
