Extra Curricular

Co-curricular activities are encouraged to engage students in all aspects of school life. We provide, in line with student interests and talents, opportunities for students including talent shows, drama, Ciorcal comhrá, science club and entry into the BT Young Scientist Competition, maths club, Board Games, Arts and Crafts, debating, quizzes etc.

Sport of course will be well supported given the number of clubs in Dublin 15 and we will also be part of Sporting Fingal, an enterprise to encourage greater participation in sport. For Autumn Term 2010 we will run Sports Club initially and offer training in Basketball, Football, Gaelic Games, Rugby,

Music & Art will be at the heart of our College:

Luttrellstown Community College will provide every opportunity to students who are interested in music and art to improve their talents and skills in these fields. In our First Year the students performed twice in Blanchardstown Library, our Evening of Festive Music at Christmas and Our talent Show in May. Our budding artists have attended a print workshop and their work is on constant display. They look forward to getting involved in set design for our Musicals in the future.

Educational Outings:

Active learning is encouraged through educational trips which are organised in relation to the curricular content under study by the pupils. For example, students will be encouraged to attend plays for their English course or engage in a Gaeltacht trip for Gaeilge or a geography trip to Glendalough, a trip to a local factory, the Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, overseas trips and more. This year 2010 the students PE programme included a trip to Boda Borg and Lough Crew as well as a winter ice skating trip. Teamwork and social skills are built by all these trips.

An example of how we encourage a broad understand of curriculum happened during our first International Week. The Agenda for the week included presentations on different countries. The children had to include population graphs , maps and pictures of famous politicians in their power points. History Geography and CSPE came alive for the entire year group and great pride was taking in presenting a high standard of work professionally. As Príomhoide I was very impressed by the high academic standard and personal presentation on the day.

Another example of an exciting way to encourage the learning of a subject is how successful our Seachtain Na Gaeilge proved to be, please read an account of the week...

Seachtain Na Gaeilge

5ú-19ú Márta

Bhí an-spórt is craic againn i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge. Coláiste Pobail Baile Lotrail celebrated its first 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' by organising and taking part in many events during lunchtime and club after school. We enjoyed Biongó, Poc Fada, Tóraíocht Taisce, Tráth na gCeist and many more fun events! Bhí na himeachtaí oscailte dona daltaí uile and it was a great opportunity to

celebrate An Ghaeilge. We decided to enter GLEO a competition to 'spreag úsáid na Gaeilge mórthimpeall na scoile' agus d'éirigh thar barr linn é seo a dhéanamh. Mar thoradh ar ár n'iarrachtaí bhuamar €3,000 mar duais. Bronnfar an duais orainn in Óstán Davenport ar an 12ú Bealtaine. Tá muid an bhróduil as ár mbua.

Our students also got involved in a poster competition which was judged by Príomhoide Ní Chaisil. The school was decorated also with the fantastic art work ónar ndaltaí ealaíne. To round off our Seachtain Na Gaeilge we had a Céilí Mór agus amhránaíocht. Each class group prepared some lovely songs through Irish; Léimigí Thart (Jump Around) and Cailín na Gaillimhe (The Galway Girl) and many more. The students showed their great dancing skills at our Céilí Mór. Ba mhór an onóir dúinn gur tháinig iarscoláirí Phríomhoide ó Ghaelcholáiste Reachrann ar cuairt chun Ceol Tradisiúinta a sheinm this topped off our week. Bhí an-chraic go deo againn! Tá buíochas mór ag dul go Oide Ní Thuairisg agus na múinteoirí uile a chabhraigh leí sprioad na Gaeilge a chur chun cinn sa choláiste. What a year we are having. Ní neart go cur le chéile!
